Any advice before buying one of these?

Kinja'd!!!

Especially the one with Automatic Gearbox. I kinda want it and maybe will look for one of these in the future, if they're still arround.

Rust. Rust. Rust. Rust. Rust. Rust.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I had one as my first car, and it was a lot of fun. Apart from the rust. And a few reliability issues. Well, a lot of reliability issues. But mainly rust.

Get a replacement spine and bum because the ride is horrific (at least it was in the one I rode in).

Find out exactly what it is.

There are very few cars here in the states that are what they seem. "1978 Mini" may just have a 1978 VIN on it. What engine does it have a A-series, or a A+ Metro? What size engine is it? 850? 998? 1100? 1275? What front and rear subframe does it have? Wet or dry suspension? How did it get here to the states (they stopped importing them in 1967)? What wiring diagram should you follow while troubleshooting? Front disks or drums?

If you're in luck, the pieces will all be from the same car, and it just has the wrong VIN on it.

Oh yes, solid rubber cone suspension is not for people who like to be comfortable.

Well, i dont know in the states, but in Indonesia you can import any car that you want as long as you pay for 200% of tax.

Probably i'll go with the dry one, since that thing is more common in here.

Fow the VIN, i'm pretty sure that would be the easy part.

OK, you're not in the states - that makes it a lot different.

Still - make sure you know what it is. These things changed very little in the 40 years they were made, and a lot of stuff is interchangeable. Parts a cheap and plenty here in the states, and if you find one that is carb'd and has points, it can be fixed by anyone.

Leaky radiator; overheating; leak in heater matrix (steam inside the car); starter motor jamming; clutch slipping; electrical problems with lights, switches; brakes pulling car to left side of road; rust...

It was a lot of fun when it was working properly, but there were times when I wanted to smash it into tiny pieces. Having said that, my car was very high mileage for a Mini (~90,000 miles when I bought it), so some things were more extreme than others.

So..

Honestly parts won't be a problem, they're plenty.

But how often that parts is breaking down, that's what i concern by now.

Espceially thanks to the import Tax, a very good example sold for 12-16k..
